shakespeare was probably turning in his grave

This is mainly due to the fact that the adaptation of Richard III we watched today was utterly and completely cracked out. Here's a clip of the beginning. Imagine what the rest of the film was like, if you dare.

If I were Ian McKellen, I'd be all over the Wite-Out trying to get this off my resume. He could also type 'King Lear' and LOTR in gigantic letters if he wanted to really get creative.

if you only knew the power... of the cheese

Bizarre. Thank goodness the clip was short, 'cause it's like a traffic accident. You want to look away, but you just can't....

I was so waiting for gas mask dude to ask "Are you my Mummy?" Or possibly, with the Vader breathing, "I am your Father."
It's a whole confusing parental thing.

Ha!! I was definitely on the Vader train, myself (though I wish I'd thought of the Who connection also - TEC is one of my favorite Ninth Doctor episodes.) The exaggerated breathing was just begging to be traced back to where it belongs Star Wars. :)

Describing this as a 'traffic accident' is actually pretty appropriate! Since this is a morning class, a lot of students will normally sleep through the movies, but this one kept getting so bad and so insane that nobody could sleep. We just stared in shock and horror, basically.

I saw it last year. I didn't think it was so bad... not great, obviously, and some of the acting sucked, and the setting was pretty stupid, but I recall that it had some good moments, most of them being Ian McKellen's. I do remember hating Robert DJr's performance, and whoever played one of the lead female roles, don't remember which. Neither was memorable.

Yeah, okay, it was bad. But I remember liking those few moments... I just don't remember what they were exactly.

Yeah, Ian McKellen was probably the best of the cast, and there were tiny moments where I liked his portrayal of Richard, but overall, he didn't do anything memorable or awe-inspiring for me.

He also broke the fourth wall constantly, which bugs me. I don't mind an aside or two, or even a couple of soliloquies, but the continual asides got on my nerves. Plus, the very end - his supposed-to-be dramatic death scene? Hated it.

I totally agree about the death scene, I have to say. very anti-climactic. I don't recall all the asides, but then it's been a while since I've seen it.
