I can't decide whether to laugh (this is soooo very Jack) or worry. And yes, you completely dodged the cliffhanger -- but that's how these fics work, often for the better. A dodge here, an extension there, and twist over there. Part of the challenge! And what you've really done is made the cliffhanger WORSE! I'm very glad chocoholic47 grabbed this one already. ;)
I don't usually do concrit on round-robins, but since you asked, here's some thoughts. As a standalone piece, this is a lovely glimpse inside Jack's head; it's fascinating to see his covert researches at the Time Agency, what they turned up about the now-mythical Time Lords, and the connections he makes between regeneration and his resurrection.
Love the Jack humor, too. Their lacking sex lives, mentioned at every inopportune moment. The "defibrillator" drink. *snerk* "That's not an invite to undress him. Much as I'd like to." Even in crisis, Jack remains ... well, Jack. You've done a nice job showcasing his multiple layers, too - showing his profound need for affection and belonging, and his respect for both the Doctor and Rose, despite his teasing. Overall, a good character piece.
I'm particularly interested in the fact that he recognizes Rose as the one who brought him back from the darkness. Lots of good fodder here for folks to play with in future scenes/chapters. I'll be looking forward to it!
